Analyze what the purpose of the vehicle is mainly for; is it for work, family or mainly to satisfy that inner sensation to own the vehicle of your dreams?
If it is for work than have a look at something economical that does the job for getting you from point A to point B. Family use?...then why not look at a vehicle that will accommodate everyone, like a minivan or an SUV…think practical, you won’t be able to get a baby seat and your wife in a two seater. If you are satisfying that urge to buy that car you’ve been dreaming about since you were 12, then go for it…just don’t make the mistake of using that statement “at whatever the cost…” too loosely. It could hurt – financially.

Does appearance really matter?
Maybe you are trying to impress a girlfriend with your new vehicle…or you want something that say – middle class. Whatever the reason is, don’t let the appearance alter what the primary goal for having a new vehicle. If the budget allows it, then some higher end manufacturers offer both appearance and performance…at a price.

Buying it online or at a dealership?

Get exactly what you want…don’t compromise!
Buying a new vehicle will mostly be the second largest purchase transaction that anyone will make in their lifetime…maybe more than once. So when you decide what features that you want in your vehicle, don’t compromise unless it is absolutely necessary. If it comes down to finance and you have to give up the sunroof to make it work, then fine, make that decision. But don’t let the dealership tell you what you want…you are in control when it comes to buying YOUR new vehicle. Think of it like eating at a restaurant and you decide to order a steak. You normally order it rare, but are you going to let the waiter tell you that well done is the only way they can make it…I think not! So don’t be too anxious, if it means waiting 2 months for your new vehicle to show up then be patient about it. It’s better to get exactly what you want with only having to sacrifice a bit of time.

Don’t just let the test drives make your decision…
While driving it yourself will give you a good indication of how it will perform, sometimes that could alter the deal you are making with the sales person. The term that veteran car sales reps pass along is “the feel of the wheel will seal the deal”…catchy but very true. Buyers will make “room” in their budget if they get a good impression during the test drive. Displays of excitement in the vehicle will indicate to the car sales rep that they are now in control of the deal. Try to be reserved and save it for when the deal is closed in your favour. Happiness has a price tag.
