Things to consider before buying a new or used car:

New…not always the answer.
While buying new has its appeal it might not always be the answer. New vehicles will depreciate fast in the first 2 years and then slow down. Buying a vehicle that is 1 year old has it advantages, it’s still fairly new and the price you pay is quite lower compared to the new model. Most dealerships will discount their last year’s models just to get them out the door quicker before the new models arrive. Keep in mind that the older model might not have all the new features that are available in the new model.

Buying it outright or leasing?…you decide.
One of the first things that you must consider is how long you want to keep the car. If you are buying for the purpose of owning the car of your dreams then buying is your route. Cars today are becoming more and more expensive, that means the monthly payments are higher as well. Leasing offers a low monthly payment with a high residual at the end of the lease term. It’s a good method to having a vehicle at a low or no down payment and affordable monthly payments that won’t break the bank. You might not own it at the end but at least you were not put in a tight spot to either selling it or sacrificing other necessities over it.

Is safety a concern?
You can make your decision based on whether you have a children or perhaps the area you live in. Maybe having extra airbags in case of an accident is an added safety requirement. With the cold winters that Saskatchewan has, maybe all wheel drive is very important to a Buyer and must be a standard in any new car purchase. There are many factors that are involved when it comes to purchasing a vehicle with safety features. When to buy…
The best times to purchase a car from a dealership is December through January. During this time, dealerships would add rebate incentives or low finance rates just to get them off the lot. They are preparing for the new models to arrive. Dealerships will run promotions throughout the year to increase sales or to move vehicles that are not selling so well. Look out for rebates being offered for these vehicles and take advantage of these time periods, this will be the best time to get deals.
